Happy 234th Birthday
to the US Navy!
(founded October 13, 1775)
Every year Naval Station Newport holds a Navy Ball to celebrate the birth of our country's Navy. My peeps like to go to this, but Siberians, even well-dressed ones, are not allowed to attend. Mom says its furry cool - after the dinner they call up the youngest sailor in attendance and the oldest, and together, they cut a gigantic khake with a sword! This year's youngest was 17, a young lady from NAPS (Naval Academy Preparatory School) and the honor for the oldest was shared by two gentlemen who served since 1940 & 1942!
Efurryone eats fancy hors'derves, steak and chicken and cheesecake, and then gets up to dance away the calories!
Mom & Dad get all dressed up for these things, but look - Dad's in black & white, just like me. I could have gone to the dance dressed just like I am, if they'd let Siberians in! Anyways, the ball was Friday night, here's a glimpse of my fancy-dancy peeps:
Mom sat next to a furry special table - According to the tradition, a small table is set with one empty place to remind us of our Naval brothers & sisters who are being held captive or missing in action, and cannot be here with us to raise their glass for a toast, or share this birthday meal. The red rose represents the love and ongoing support of their families, the lemon wedge represents the bitterness of being a prisoner of war, and the yellow ribbon represents hope for their safe return. Mom says we should always remember them in our prayers ( or pawrayers, if woo prefer).
I spent the evening hanging out in the yard, sniffin the air for clues about life on the other side of the fence. They stayed out late, and when they let me in the house, I was so tired, I curled up on my landing and went right to sleep!
a-roos to yous,

Ahhh, Jack. You would make the Navy proud as I am sure you do your humans. Nice they left you out to snooter the clean cool air. I spent most of the night out too while dad watched the Yankees win, again. Later than normal. Your hudad looked kinda like a penquin in black and white. I dont think we look like penguins, do you?

Maybe if you put a bow tie on, they'd let you go? It's worth a shot.

HAPPIE BIRFDAY to the BigBoat Gang!
At our pet store, they have collars with bow ties. Do you think that would help? Then you'd match your dad and maybe you could dance with your lovely mom.
