Chinook Kennels - Part 2

Woos & a-rooos,
Here we are, as promised. We have a few more pictures from historic Chinook Kennels. Yesterday we showed woo the memorial markers and the kennel runs, today we have a view of the house:

and the "office" cabin, which is generally falling apart:

Mom didn't take any pictures of the museum buildings, but the two of them were connected with an overpass that leads to the trails down the hill. We thought we'd look perfect under this sign:

ha-woo-woo-woo, see what we mean?

Just another nice view of us:

Mom sent an e-mail to the Chinook Kennels Heritage Foundation. The nice folks e-mailed back and told her that the property was privately owned by husky enthusiests . The original idea was to run the museum with the support of various breed clubs, and the owners would maintain the property. But apparently other things seemed tho have more urgent need for $$, and this project was abandoned. Too bad, it's a cool place. We'll leave you with a close up of the marker in the area mom suspects holds husky bones:

Now today our trip to NH has taken on an even stranger twist - it turns out that mom's friend (who owns the cabin we stayed in) is the niece of Arthur T. Walden, founder of Chinook Kennels & developer of the Chinook breed, and head trainer & dog-driver for Admiral Byrd!! Tune in tomorrow for more!

REAL Siber-Mal history!

Woos & a-rooos to yous!

Woos, have we had a great weekend! After Huffle's visit, our mom & dad packed the car AND US and took us to Wonalancet New Ham-sure (doesn't that sound tasty, Huffle?). We had so many adventures, we're going to blog all week about it. Here's a brief glimpse of our trip:

We stayed in a cabin in the woods, hiked on the mountain, chased stuff, slept by the fire, ate by a lake, found a GIGANTIC boulder, hiked again, sniffed the waterfall.

There is one very special thing that happened that we want to share with you RIGHT NOW.
We all know there's been a lot of buzz in the sled dog community this week because the Iditerod series starts on Discovery Tuesday night. (make your humans record it for you) Well, we have some "sled dog news" of our own! Some honest to goodness siber-mal history! Here's what happened...

We were driving along and our humans saw a road marker that said "Chinook Kennels". It seemed odd to have a road marker for a kennel, so we stopped. Here is what the marker said, (click it to bring up a larger picture):

Woos!!! How about that!!!! We discovered an important historic site for siberians & malamutes! There were three other markers, too. One was from Admiral Byrd himself. (It's a little hard to read so mom printed it too):

TO ALL NOBLE DOGS
WHOSE LIVES WERE GIVEN ON DOG TREKS
DURING THE TWO EXPEDITIONS TO
LITTLE AMERICA ANTARCTICA
TO FURTHER SCIENCE AND DISCOVERY.
1928-1930 1933-1935
DEDICATED OCTOBER 8, 1938

And a large granite marker had a sled carved in it, the #1 sled:

The site appears to be abandoned now, but we spent time soaking up the vibes.
We could still smell "husky" in these old kennels. Aren't they beautiful? There is a flat patch of ground just to the right of the kennels with another marker (picture tomorrow). Don't know if any old husky bones are lying under the ground there, but it looks like there could be. Mom is such a softie- she sat down in the old lawn chairs in front of the kennels and got all teary, she said this felt like husky holy ground. We left lots of fluff behind - our little tribute, woo might say.

Even our humans seemed pleased and surprised to come across this quite by accident, having no idea that siber-mal history was made right here in this area! Can woo see us as we walked back to the memorials near the road?

We insisted the humans photograph us in front of this historic memorial before leaving:

We'll post more pictures from our unexpected visit to Chinook Kennels tomorrow.

Check back for all the exciting details of our trip & lots more pictures this week.

Huffle's visit!

Our kitty cat friend Huffle came to visit!!!!

We had a great time, and here 's a few pictures....

After showing Huffle my toys, I showed her my hide-away spot - upstairs in the back bedroom on my moose rug! Huffle liked it a lot , and enjoyed rubbing her back on my moose rug. I even ticked her belly with my snooter, like I do my puppy. Only Huffle didn't squeak, she purred!

We treated Huffle to a stroll along the beach, and a lobster dinner. MMMM, Mom cooked it up just right! We had lots of melted butter, too.

Then Huffle and Star had a nice chat while enjoying the late afternoon lounging on our couch in the back yard. Huffle had so many interesting things to talk about. She's a furry entertaining kitty.

Huffle, we're so glad you stopped by on your world tour, and we hope woo enjoyed your stay with us!

Puppy-sitting

Wooos, Star here.

Remember my bf Moon, who lives up the street from me? Humom is puppy-sitting him for a day or so. She promised we would go for a walk together, but it's raining, so she left me home while she went & fed him. Darned rain! She brought me back some very nice pictures.

What dreamy eyes you have, Moon!

And this one's for you, MFT Khyra - meet Mr Fluffy Tail!

I'm practicing my puppy-sitting skills so next time I can puppy-sit Moon myself!

I'm hoping the rain clears up soon - humom's still promising me a walk with Moon later!

"Star and Moon"... isn't that romantic?

Woos,
Star

Peg-leg Pengie, & farewell to a friend

I LOVE my toys...

I take very good care of them. I'm a working dog - I work hard herding toys day and night.

I love playing with puppy. I poke him in the belly with my snooter. He squeaks!

My fluffy ball is holding up quite well.

I love my penguin so much, I could just eat him up. Well actually, that's what I did. Mama restuffed him & stictched him all up, but I got carried away with love again. I turned him into a one-legged penguin. Mom calls him "Peg-leg Pengie". He's blind now too, but I really love him. This is how she found Pengie tonight. Honest, all I did was pull a loose thread! (He's back inside for a little more penguin-patching)

Way to go, Jack.... you're loving Pengie to pieces, ha-roo roo roo!

Learn a new trick - click & vote!

Wooos & a-rooos, friends, let me tell woo why I'm smiling,

We were two lucky sibes who were adopted right from our home kennels, but we know there are many many sibes out there without loving homes and caring families. We can help them by learning a new trick - click & vote!

Our furry good friends, the AO4 posted this challenge, and and it is so important, we want to post it here too. Woo can help a wonderful Siberian Husky rescue group - MaPaw, to win $25,000 from the Animal Rescue Site. Just click here or on the button on our sidebar, & vote for MaPaw. Under Search and Vote for a Shelter, please enter MaPaw for the name, USA for country, and PA as the state. Then click and cast your vote. They'll show woo an adorable dog or cat & ask woo to confirm the species, which confirms your vote. You can vote once a day, every day, from now until December 14th.
See how simple it is to do?

So, will woo help?
YES?!!
On behalf of all those needy sibes, thank-woo!
I knew we could count on woo!

Bewootiful!

Nothing much to report, but humom decided (as if she isn't far enough behind on everything as it is) to procrastinate a while longer, she's changing our blog around. She was inspired when she was playing in photoshop with one of our pics & voila, she thinks it looks like one of those professional studio shots! (Look up at the top of our blog. Woo can see the pic she worked from on our July 12th blog post.) Then she thought it would be nice to change all the colors around too. We like it, even thought we're color blind (or so they say)

We had a nice long walk today because it's been raining nonstop for three days and we are driving her crazy in the house. No thunderstorms, just rain rain and more rain. Not that we're complaining - when it rains, we get to spend LOTS more time inside, which has its perks. The rain stopped & the sun peeked out of the clouds for about 45 minutes, during which time the bipeds decided to go sailing. As soon as they set foot on the boat, it clouded over again for the next several hours. But apparently they had a good time anyway. Humom said the other bipeds challenged her to go faster, and she practically had the boat heeled over (leaning) clear till the water came up to the side-rails. Go mom!
Here's what it looks like looking out from the boat:

and here is a boat heeling, but not a whole lot:

Since neither Jack or I care much for water that isn't frozen, this whole sailing thing doesn't interest us at all. But I guess if your going to live on an island, its a good idea to know how to sail!

Morning Zoomies

Every morning it's the same thing. Feed Jack, bribe me to eat breakfast, then let us out. Jack starts his morning zoomies around the yard and thru the house. He tries to get me to join in, but I'm not even awake yet. It seems to entertain humom to no end. Since it's pouring down buckets of rain today, she'll have to settle for video zoomies this morning.

Can I get a cup of coffee now, please?

Pirates & Beach Day!

Woos & a-roos!
It's been a gorgeous weekend. We laid out in the sun all day yesterday, soaking up rays while our pawrents went sailing. They floated right into a harbor festival that was having a Pirate contest!!! We thought it was cool since it was "Talk like a pirate day" last Friday. The bipeds ate tasty things up on the patio by the red umbrellas and watched a couple rowing contests, watched miniature sailboats, and listened to some pirates singing sea shanties.

Mom got a picture of these very same pirates last year at the Tall ships Festival - here, in the parade:

This time Mom got a pic of two pirates having lunch. (We disguised their true identity with extra "pirate" details).

There was a floating flower float contest, too - if we were there we would have voted for the rooster, cause it looks the tastiest, besides the real ducks floating around.

Today we got our turn to go have fun at the beach! We got to sniff a big sea turtle carcass that washed in from the ocean, and a bunch of dead fish & crabs... it was heavenly! We wooed to a northern cousin we saw enjoying the beach & waves while we were there, too.

It put us in such a good mood, we decided to go ahead & give em a couple good shots...

Hope you had as much fun as we did this weekend!

Wooos & a-rooos!

Woos & a-roos to all of yous,
Ha-woo! That last blog post was lots of fun. Here's a brief list of all the things that make us woo with happiness: walking on beaches, napping, peace & quiet, everyday life, cake, FUR friends, purrs, dogparks, walks, food, hugs, kissies, pictures of us, our blog, taking naps, eating cookies, oceans, and furever homes! Just reading this makes us feel all warm & fuzzy. Wait... we're always fuzzy. Well, woo know what we mean.

We are making a shameless commercial announcement: Our humom has opened an internet card shop called JackStar Cards. We're furry furry excited! Woo guys are the first to know!

We're her official card selectors, nothing gets by that doesn't meet our approval. That's because Mom is donating money to husky rescue for every card sold, whether or not they have a husky on the card. Which is nice, cause she also uses alligators and fluffy white puppies and kitties & stuff. She uses all her own photos & drawings, and can even do custom stuff.

She's made some really fun Halloween cards, and has lots of cool Christmas cards planned, too. So we may occasionally feature a few here blog-worthy ones here like these:

We know you recognize those good-looking huskies, and doesn't that last one remind you of a young Huffle?
So grab your humans plastic the next time they need to send a nifty card to someone special, and mush on over.

"We're Star & Jack, and we approve this message"

Back to "Normal"... What makes woo happy?

Well, my boy is gone, & it's after Labor Day so most of the tourists are gone, too. That means Jack & I get to go back to our beach! (Can woo believe it - dogs and horses are banned between Memorial Day & Labor Day! No fair.)
Beawootiful day today after Gustav's rains rained down all day & night yesterday. It was very windy & wet out, so we got to sleep in the bedroom with our bipeds. We like that.
Here's a couple pictures from our walk on the beach today. We had to watch where we put our delicate little feety-feets cause there were jellyfish washed up all along the shoreline.
The little birds were still there...

Walking on the sand makes us happy.
What makes woo happy?

Sad woos & Happy woos

First, the sad woos. Our humom's SIL has gone to the rainbow bridge for humans. She left Tuesday afternoon, while her husband (humom's brother) and their son were with her in the hospital. The white coats have been trying very hard to fix her for a very long time, and even put in some new parts, but humom says God must have needed another angel and brought her up to human heaven. She was a very kind & loving person, and our humans will miss her terribly.

Now, some happier woos.
our boy has been here for the past 4 days, & we love having him here!
Now, you may be asking yourself "why is Jack in a tree?"
Good question. No good answer, except that the humans thought he would look cute in a tree. No wonder we don't understand them.

This nice picture was taken by our boy when they took us for a car ride.

...and Jack once again ended up in a tree.

We have no explanation for this obsession for putting Jack in trees. Weird things like this make it fun to have our boy around. More later...
